Joining/Helping the Team
We are always looking for talented individuals to contribute
to the development of Leaiva Online. If you would like to help
out Leaiva in any way, please join our forum and let us know!
If you would rather just e-mail me directly, you can contact me
at baughj AT uci DOT edu. Below is a list of specific people we
are actively looking for.
Why Work With Us?
The Leaiva team consists of extremely talented individuals. We have
a top class sound engineer, producing excellent music and awesome
sound effects. We have several talented artists; some of which do contract
work but choose to work on Leaiva for the enjoyment. We also have a great
mapping team, which can create immersive lands in a 2D tiled environment.
Last but not least, we have an entirely new game engine written from scratch
in C++. This means that it is custom, it is unique, and it is ours.
Working on Leaiva is a serious hobby project. We try to be serious
about our goals and development, but we remember that it is not
a paid project. Because of this, we are a laid back group with no
drama and a fun atmosphere. We expect only that you communicate with us
as much as you can.
Artists
This position involves drawing all types of art assets, including
terrain, interfaces, items, NPCs, and spell effects. We are most
interested in terrain artists, but are in need of all talented
artists. There is no requirement on tools used, though you must produce
quality work. Artists typically use Paint.NET, Gimp or Photoshop.
You will be reporting to the lead developer and/or the lead artist.
Additionally, there are several people who are almost always available for
feedback and general communication.
Mappers
This position involves creating maps for the world of Leaiva. This
allows for a lot of creativity because you will be designing what
the players see and explore. Making maps is an iterative process,
so you will constantly be revising and improving your work. You will
be reporting to the lead mapper and/or the lead developer.
Additionally, there are several people who are almost always available for
feedback and general communication.
The program we use to make maps is called Tiled. You can visit the
official Tiled site at http://mapeditor.org/. We use the Java version, but might switch to the
C++ Qt version eventually. We will be providing you support on how
to get started using Tiled, but you can play around with the editor
to see how it works.
